The Goose Girl by Thomas Pasieteri |
Since its inception in 2002, The Motor City Lyric Opera has brought opera with a message to over 70,000 children—free of charge.
Most performances feature the interactive opera The Goose Girl. The program runs approximately 35 minutes and students receive study guides and music that they can learn in advance.
The Goose Girl was composed by Thomas Pasieteri and is based on the Grimm Fairy Tale of the same name. Its theme imparts the importance of always being kind and truthful—a timely (and timeless) message.
This piece not only offers the opportunity to expose children to opera, it imparts a study of ethics. It also includes an interactive component, so the children are able to partake in the experience.
Although the program is primarily geared for elementary school children, it has been
enjoyed by children of all ages.
