Amahl and the Night Visitors

Amahl And The Night Visitors

AmahlThe Motor City Lyric Opera’s inaugural performance (in 2002) was the educational, inspirational “Amahl and the Night Visitors,” composed by Gian-Carlo Menotti.

The performances were held at The Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts in Detroit, Michigan. Over 20,000 (primarily urban) students experienced “Amahl and the Night Visitors” free of charge.

“Hallmark Hall of Fame” first presented this opera as a television special; it aired annually for many years. However, the original is no longer available.

The Motor City Lyric Opera filmed its own production in 2008. It is the MCLO’s intention to present this holiday classic to the Metropolitan Detroit community, in an accessible and cost-friendly manner, on an annual basis.

This production of Amahl originally appeared on WDIV-TV Channel 4 in 2008. It aired on WTVS-TV Channel 56 on December 20, 2009 and 2010.  This December 2011, we return to WDIV-TV Channel 4.
